Here’s Mud in Your Eye
There are six whisky regions in Scotland and I’m currently in the North East region knows as Speyside. Speyside whisky is characterized by less smokey taste. Yesterday I toured Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown. Balvenie is owned by Glenfiddich and is on the property next door but is considered a superior whisky.
Our tour started in the Malt room where the grain is soaked.
Once the grain has spouted its moved to a room over the furnace where it drys. Here’s a picture of the furnace that is stoked day and night.
They are once of the few distilleries that have a cooperage and make their own barrels onsite. I have a cool video of this that I will post later.
The distillation to alcohol happens in these impressive copper flumes.
Here’s where the liquid bubbles up and the alcohol volumes is monitored.
No distillery tour is complete without a wee dram. Here’s where we rested our feet and sampled their goods.
