And I’ve been capturing bits of it on paper and canvas so I can share them with you.
There’s a lot of beauty in this world. Most recently I discovered Scotland. The whole country is magnificent especially the unspoiled bits in the highlands, uplands and the islands.
My love for nature didn’t start in the Highlands. It started many years earlier in Central California. My grandparents, Harold and Annette McNeil, weary of city like in San Francisco, took a drive down the coast and discovered Boulder Creek. Soon they purchased a little pink and white cabin off Bear Creek Road. I spent as much time as I could roaming those redwoods forests and piling up rocks to make a swimming hole. I graduated from Prospect High School in Saratoga, I moved into the cabin. Later my mountain fate was sealed when I married a Boulder Creek Fireman and had my son.
I’ve lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains for thirty years and during that time I earned my BFA in Pictorial Arts from San Jose State University while working as an illustrator, web designer and now user interface designer. All the while honing my skills as a fine artist.
In 2012, I participated in the Santa Cruz Open Studio Tour. Many people don’t realize but only a portion of the artist who apply get accepted. In 2013 I bought a house in Ben Lomond and spent the next eight months renovating and then moving, so I had less studio time. In June of 2015 I traveled to Scotland and took 2000 photos. In August 2015 I returned to Scotland and rented a painting studio. Much of the work on this site was completed on during that two month trip.
I’d love to hear your impressions of my work and I’m looking for suggestions for my next painting adventure. Tell me, where in the world you go for inspiration?
